This post, taken from a recent JET magazine article, is from Rahman Grayson, owner of AEIM Fitness and a personal trainer and life coach in Atlanta, GA. If you like his advice, check out his website and his tweets @shutupandtrain. I highly recommend his services. I only lasted 10 minutes with him…check out that session here.
I work with clients daily to help them lead healthy, stress-free lives. Just like there are many different ways to become stressed, there are an infinite amount of ways to cope with or reduce stress levels. Below are my top activities for managing stress:
- RUN/WALK: Get your heart going a little faster for at least 15 minutes a day. For additional stress-relieving benefits, take a stroll outdoors. Natural surroundings trigger relaxation responses in the brain.
- YOGA/PILATES are great because they focus on breathing, meditation, imagery and flexibility. Working with small groups is a plus when looking to reduce stress.
- WEIGHT TRAINING is a high-energy form of exercise that can decrease stress hormones like cortisol, and increase endorphins, boosting your mood.
- MASSAGE THERAPY allows the muscles in your body to relax. If you don’t have time or money for a full-body massage, try a 30-minute foot massage or soaking away stress in an aromatherapy bath.
