Quality Music in Tallahassee. Let’s Talk About It.

This is a part of my series on addressing my follower’s perceptions of the problems with events in Tallahassee, FL for young professionals.

Generally, there are three main components of awesome events: people, place, and music. We’ll discuss music here.

As part of our concept development methodology for the new Thursdays at Cafe Cabernet, the quality of music has come up again and again…and again.

The feedback reflects the samples below:

• The djs here are not bold enough. They play limited playlists and only seek to create one type of vibe.
• The DJs (except for a few) are limited in their musical selection. And they play the SAME format every freakin’ week! Gimme me something different, I don’t want to hear Piles all night. Period. And I don’t want to feel like I’m listening to the radio either.

Creating A Definition

Now, what’s quality to me might not be quality to you. And vice versa. In addition to 1980 – 2001 era hip hop, and R&B, I also like rock, pop, soul, and house. You might think that’s some complete BS. Alternatively, you might consider Gucci Mane and Nicki Minaj completely awesome. I do not.

It’s all about setting expectations, and we need a standard definition. What type of music do you consider “quality”? Please provide specific artists as examples.
