My Vision For Florida Classic Weekend For Urban Young Professionals

Imagine 10,000 urban young professionals from the state of Florida descending upon one city for a 3-day weekend of rockstar times designed especially for them…

I have this theory, a hypothesis if you will, about the potential of the Florida Classic relative to minority young professionals in the state of Florida.

In my opinion, Florida Classic Weekend should be a time when all young professionals (HBCU and non-HBCU grads) from around the  entire state come together for a weekend of awesome times. Orlando is a beautiful, and centrally located market. There are plenty of modern (and reasonably priced) hotels.

All that is missing is an event schedule designed with the urban young professional in mind.

2010 marks my third straight going to Orlando for the Florida Classic. In 2008, there was only the Crown Royal Affair. Last year, the Ciroc + NUVO Ultra Premium Lounge was added to the line up (what a party!). This year, the Coors Light Kickoff Party on Thursday has been added to round out a 3 day VIP Weekend with complimentary admission and drinks.

In summary, the young professional event line up is:

– Thursday, November 18th: Coors Light Kick Off Party hosted by Monie Love

– Friday, November 19th: The Crown Royal Affair with celeb deejays Kool & Irie

– Saturday, November 20th: The Ciroc  + NUVO Ultra Premium Lounge with celeb deejays Don Cannon and Drama

There’s still room for growth though. There should be a young alumni tailgate. There could be a special section at the football game for young professionals. There could be a Sunday brunch location before people head back home. The list goes on and on.

The reality is that we’re building a really awesome experience for people…something that many young professionals from around the state say lacks in their home cities. As long as I can, I’ll work to make this vision become reality.

I agree with you 100%. I love the vision you have for my home State. The Florida Classic has been around for a very long time, however improvements to cater to the urban young professionals is always needed. I recently moved back to Florida and reside in the Orlando area. I’m looking forward to attending the Classic events as I have not attended in 8 years.

I’m on board with helping create this vision…. I’m here to assist! You got my contact information.

Thank you for everything you’re doing! Loving it!
