Promoting For Church Events vs. Nightlife Events

[Obviously, the Super Bowl is today. I’ll keep this one short]

So, recently I joined the Young Adult Group at Our Lady of Lourdes, and today we recruited new members for the group after the 10am Mass. This was the first time I participated in a church activity, and though it wasn’t a totally eye-opening experience, the difference between church activities and nightlife activities was just enough to make me pause a few times:

Promoting nightlife activities:
[arrow_list]

  • 90% of the women aren’t married
  • Usually, I’ve had, at least, one drink to loosen up
  • I only talk to women
  • The event benefits me some way
  • [/arrow_list]
Promoting church activities (small sample set):
    [arrow_list]

  • 70% of the women are married
  • I’m totally sober
  • I only talk to women
  • I gain absolutely nothing personally from the activity (aside from the intangible warm/fuzzy/service to God feeling)
  • [/arrow_list]
Interesting differences which made look at my life a little differently.

Ha. I feel you. I’ve recently begun to organize events for church, since I lead small group bible studies….and I find I have to get real creative with options because I’m so used to my social events including alcohol of some sort. At least I lead women’s groups so I can find something girly to do :)
