Spurred by a tweet from @jsdowling, I wanted to give a quick update on the latest and not-so-greatest from yours truly:
As was the case last year, December 2010, January/February 2011 were mental/physical/emotional/spiritual recovery months from the Fall football season. Not sure what possesses me to organize 15 events in 3 cities across in a 60 day span (ok, I do know), but it takes a TON out of me.
Back to the update. I’ve done doing alot of soul-searching this year: accepting that I am a rebel who is destined to try to save the world through accelerating entrepreneurship. I just have to figure out a way to take care of my (future) family. I’ve also realized that I’m not motivated by money, but by solving problems, and I’m not really willing to back down from that – even if it causes a loss of revenue.
From a project standpoint, I’ve done some digital stuff for Season 2 of Are We There Yet?, The Adjustment Bureau, Red Riding Hood, Taking on Tyson, CNN, and movies to be released this summer.
From a company standpoint, we’re undergoing a pivot with DIGITALGUESTLIST into more of a VIP club. More on that later.
From a FAMU Young Alumni standpoint, I haven’t had time to work on it, but we’re trying to get young alums to attend the National Alumni Association convention in Orlando (May), and get on the agenda. The Atlanta Young Alumni Committee’s schedule of activities include a kickball game and cookout, flag football game and cookout, pool party and cookout, and slate of Atlanta Classic Weekend activities.
From a FAMUANS in Entertainment perspective, we’ve brought on several writers who’ve written a bunch of new articles. I’m trying to find time for an Atlanta dinner meetup.
From a service standpoint, I’ve spoken to some kids about entrepreneurship, and I’m trying to get involved with GA Pacific’s Youth Entrepreneurs program. I’ve also joined the Young Adult Group at Our Lady of Lourdes where the next big project is the Revival on March 7th & 8th. I also organized the initial session of Founder’s Therapy (group discussion for company founders over drinks).
From a philosophy standpoint, I believe, more than ever, that there is a specific reason I was called to be an entrepreneur 9 years ago. And I have become a follower of the Customer/Agile Development entrepreneurship “religion.” I see great opportunity in tweaking it and applying it to small, service based businesses.
From a relationship perspective, I still don’t have a girlfriend, nor do I spend enough time talking to family/friends. There’s only 24 hours in a day. When you’re trying to save the world, you are sacrificing some things.
What you take from all of this is that I’m doing a ton of stuff driven by the ability to see gaps/holes/opportunities that others either don’t see or see and refuse to act on. I wish that other people would step up without asking permission so I could rest a little, and have fun.
