[Based on Steve Blank and Eric Ries’ definition of entrepreneurship, I believe an entrepreneur is an person who starts an organization whose only objective is to search and find a repeatable and profitable business model under conditions of extreme uncertainty.]

I had a great time talking with fellow/meeting new entrepreneurs last night at the Black Enterprise Pre-Entrepreneurs Conference Mixer at Emerging Art Scene. During the promotional campaign RSVP process, we asked guests what are their most pressing problems and what programs would they like to see Black Enterprise implement during the Entrepreneurs Conference. Below are some of the “lessons learned.”

Lessons Learned

[arrow_list]

  • The two most pressing problems were funding (investment/loans) and customer acquisition
  • Approx. 60% of the entrepreneurs had less than 3 years experience
  • Approx. 80% of the entrepreneurs own service companies
  • Lessons Learned/Failure Stories panel, Meetups/Networking events, Generation Gap Entrepreneurship panel, and the “Reality Checks” of Entrepreneurship panel were the most mentioned programs they’d like to see.
