Over the past 6-7 months, I’ve been moving away from entertainment and toward entrepreneurship. 99% of you didn’t know this, but I’ve been running a secret Facebook group for entrepreneurs for two years now, and I’m turning it into a full-time company.
It is called sf35, and the original vision was to be a General Assembly (without owning the physical space) for entrepreneurs from under-served communities (defined as lack of access to key resources). We would organize and promote classes on advanced-level topics for high-potential entrepreneurs Kinda like I promote parties.
But deep down, I knew this wouldn’t work as a standalone service. As I talked to more and more targeted entrepreneurs, I began to realize that their time was extremely limited. But most importantly, they thought, b/c they’ve already had some success, that there was no need to learn new stuff.
Um, this is obviously a big problem if we were gonna hitch our wagon to the courses (online + offline) train. And in the past, I would have continued down that road despite the warning signs.
The good thing is there is more than one way to skin a cat. People can learn from multiple sources, and an idea from a colleague recently pointed us in the right direction (we think/hope):
We’ll introduce the entrepreneurs to awesome advisors, and the advisors can educate them on key topics (amongst other things like make introductions to talent and customers).
So, this is the path we’re on. I’ll keep you posted on how it goes.
