It’s been an amazing last few weeks for the kid. We launched Goodie Hack, the Idea Hackathon Series for Under-Served Communities, on March 1st. And it lived up to the hype. By March 6th, I found myself in Austin, TX for SXSW where my primary objectives were:
1) Discovering if Goodie Hack was fundable. And, if so, what are some of the sources.
2.) Learning how to scale Goodie Hack to different cities.
Both of these objectives are “mission #essential” to my life’s purpose. I checked the box on both of them. Mission accomplished.
But I decided to take another step in my life’s purpose, this one relative to health & wellness, and register to become a bone marrow donor. If you’ve been following my long enough, you know that I consider listening to your calling an #essential part of life. If not THE #essential part of life. It’s something I can’t do without. And when I don’t listen, bad things happen. Real life Adjustment Bureau stuff here.
Ok, back to the action recap.
I attended the MVMT50 Welcome Reception at the George Washington Carver Museum on Friday, March 7th where the awesome organization Be The Match was present educating attendees on the need for more African-Americans to be bone marrow donors. (This is a big deal b/c black people are the most genetically diverse people in the country. Making it pretty hard to find the bone marrow matches need to cure people of blood cancers). You could even register by simply swabbing your cheeks a few times. I did it.
Here’s to bringing the health averages in our community up to the national averages, and listening to your calling. One of the few #essentials in life (that and the Internet).
